Zamfara Police, Joint Forces Repel Bandits On Major Highway
Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command in collaboration with the military and Civilian Security Volunteers have repelled an ambush by armed bandits along the Gidan Giye–Magazu Road in Tsafe Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Friday, July 31, 2026 at about 12:30pm.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar.
According to the statement, the joint security team acted on credible intelligence that a large number of armed bandits were crossing the Gidan Giye–Magazu axis.
“On arrival at the location, the joint team came under heavy gunfire from bandits who had laid an ambush. The operatives responded with superior firepower, leading to a fierce gun battle,” the statement said.
It added that several of the bandits were neutralised during the exchange, while others sustained gunshot injuries and fled into a nearby forest.
The statement further disclosed that one Police CSK operational vehicle had its tyres damaged during the encounter.
However, the security team sustained the offensive and forced the bandits to retreat and abandon their mission.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, CP A.M. Bello, psc+, mnips, praised their courage, professionalism and resilience.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
“We will not relent in our efforts to rid Zamfara of banditry and other violent crimes,” It stated.
