NOHIL partners UK, US doctors for foot surgery training, medical outreach
The National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, will collaborate with foot and ankle surgeons from the United Kingdom, the United States, Türkiye, Pakistan and Nigeria to host a week-long specialist foot and ankle surgery training programme and free medical outreach for over 1,000 Lagos residents.
In a statement issued by the hospital’s management, the programme, organised in partnership with Steps2Walk and the Global Health Charity and Training Foundation, will run from August 10 to 14, 2026.
The hospital stated that the initiative is designed to strengthen the capacity of orthopaedic surgeons through advanced training, practical surgical demonstrations, knowledge sharing, and humanitarian medical outreach.
It noted that participants would receive direct mentorship from internationally recognised foot and ankle specialists while contributing to improved access to specialised care for patients with complex foot and ankle conditions.
The programme will begin on Monday, August 10, with an opening ceremony, didactic lectures, and a medical outreach at the Pavilion Hall of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi.
On Tuesday, August 11, participants will take part in patient selection, case discussions and lectures at the hospital, while a community medical outreach will be conducted at the General Hospital, Somolu.
The statement further noted that residents attending the outreach will receive free medical screening services, including blood pressure and cholesterol checks, diabetes and malaria testing, prostate-specific antigen testing and colorectal cancer screening, with referrals provided where necessary.
The statement added that live surgeries would be held on Wednesday, August 12, and Thursday, August 13, at the hospital, where participants would observe complex foot and ankle surgical procedures performed by Nigerian and international faculty.
It noted that the programme would conclude on Friday, August 14, with post-operative patient reviews, hands-on cadaveric dissection and interactive case discussions.
