MAINThe African Democratic Congress, ADC says it has received credible reports of plans to arrest the National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in the days leading to Saturday’s Osun State election.
The national spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi through a statement said that with the ongoing intimidation, pattern of harassment and misuse of state institutions increasing has now characterised the conduct of the government towards the opposition.
Abdulahi reminded the govt that Ogbeni Aregbesola is a former Governor of Osun State, a former Minister of the Federal Republic and the National Secretary of the opposition political party and should be invited by the security agency lawfully with genuine reasons through established procedures.
The opposition noted that a planned arrest on the eve of an election in which his party is participating will invite only one reasonable conclusion, that the purpose is to prevent him from leading and coordinating the party’s election activities.
The ADC says Nigerians are watching all the developments in Osun and called on the Federal Government and the security agencies to take actions that will guarantee a peaceful and Credible election.
It reminded the APC’s Federal Government that nigeria is still a democratic nation and therefore should be wary of doing anything that can plunge Osun State into needless crisis.
