Nigeria Moves to Standardise Innovation Hubs Nationwide

Published

on

Nigeria is developing a common benchmark for measuring the capacity, quality and impact of innovation hubs across the country.

The proposed National Innovation Hub Standards Framework was the focus of a technical validation workshop in Abuja.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy says the initiative is part of efforts to build a stronger digital ecosystem driven by technology and entrepreneurship.

Innovation hubs have become an important part of Nigeria’s technology ecosystem, providing spaces for start-ups, entrepreneurs and innovators to develop ideas and businesses.

But there has been no common national benchmark for assessing how well these hubs operate or the impact they deliver.

The proposed framework seeks to change that.

It is expected to establish standards for assessing the capacity, quality and performance of innovation hubs across the country.

The government says a common framework could also help identify gaps and strengthen support for hubs at different stages of development.

Participants at the technical validation workshop examined the proposed standards and how they could be applied across Nigeria’s diverse innovation ecosystem.

The broader objective is to ensure that innovation hubs contribute more effectively to entrepreneurship, skills development and the growth of technology-driven businesses.

The Federal Government says strengthening these hubs forms part of its wider effort to expand Nigeria’s digital economy and create opportunities through technology and innovation.
