The Lagos State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, has expressed grief over the reported death of veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Hassan reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
In a statement issued on behalf of the chairman, executives and members of the guild, the AGN Lagos described the late actor as one of the notable figures whose contribution to Nigerian cinema spanned more than three decades.
The guild said Ogogo earned widespread recognition through his distinctive screen presence, commanding voice and dedication to telling authentic Nigerian stories.
Beyond his acting career, the guild described him as a mentor who influenced younger practitioners, a disciplined professional on set and a strong advocate of Yoruba culture and Nigerian values.
The Director of Communications of the AGN Lagos State Chapter said the actor’s death represented a significant loss to the Nigerian creative industry.
“Ogogo’s death is a huge loss to the creative industry. He represented excellence, integrity and the golden era of Nollywood. We celebrate his life, his works and the indelible mark he left on our industry,” the statement said.
The guild extended its condolences to Hassan’s family, the national leadership and members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the wider Nollywood community and his fans around the world.
It prayed for the repose of his soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to cope with the loss.
The AGN Lagos Chapter said details of plans for a befitting tribute and funeral would be announced later, following consultations with the deceased’s family and the national body of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
