Elektron Energy moves to transform electricity supply for Victoria Island

Elektron Energy, a developer and operator of embedded power infrastructure, has unveiled its Victoria Island Power (VIPL) project, a 40-megawatt embedded power network designed to provide dedicated and more reliable electricity to businesses in one of Lagos’ upscale commercial districts.

The company opened the project to customers and business leaders recently at its Victoria Island Power Customer Experience Day, giving stakeholders an opportunity to inspect the facility and receive technical briefings ahead of commissioning.

The project, being developed in collaboration with Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and under a licence from the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), combines power generation and distribution infrastructure to supplying electricity directly to businesses across Victoria Island.

Speaking at the event, AyomideOladapo, Executive Director, Business Development, Elektron Energy, said the project was designed to address the longstanding challenges businesses face with unreliable grid supply and the high cost of self-generation.

“For years, businesses in Victoria Island have had to operate within the constraints of unreliable power, either absorbing the cost and complexity of self-generation or navigating the uncertainty of the grid,” he said.

“Neither model provides the predictability businesses need to plan, invest and grow with confidence.

“Victoria Island Power changes that equation. By delivering clean, dedicated, professionally managed electricity infrastructure, we are giving businesses access to reliable power without the burden of fuel logistics, generator maintenance or operational disruption.”

The 40MW facility will use Wärtsilä engine technology, with the project team providing customers and business leaders with technical details of the generation plant and its distribution network during the customer experience event.

Mika Gummerus, Site Manager, Energy Services & Upgrade, Wärtsilä, said the project demonstrated the importance of combining technical expertise with long-term infrastructure planning.

“Victoria Island Power shows what happens when the right technical expertise, infrastructure and long-term planning come together,” he said.
