The husband of a woman allegedly killed by her co-wife in Bauchi State has been hospitalised following the trauma he suffered as a result of the incident, the state Police Command has disclosed.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this while responding to Arewa PUNCH’s questions on Thursday regarding latest developments on the matter.
Habib, who did not disclose further details about the traumatised man’s condition only confirmed that he had been hospitalised following the incident.
However, Habib said the police were still investigating the incident, adding that the case would be charged to court upon the conclusion of their investigations.
The Police spokesman, meanwhile, identified the deceased as Jamila Adamu, and was allegedly killed by her co-wife, Hauwa’u Haruna, 33, with a pestle at their Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi, residence.
According to the top cop, the two women, who lived in the same house, had reportedly been involved in repeated disagreements before the incident.
He added that detectives attached to the C-Division mobilised to the scene following a report, discovered that the suspect, who was the second wife, allegedly acted under hallucinations before striking Jamila on the forehead with a pestle.
Habib said the attack caused the victim to lose consciousness before she was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where a doctor confirmed her dead.
He said, “The scene was documented, and the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor. Her corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
The PPRO added that the suspect was arrested, while the pestle allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.
He further disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
