Loughborough will honour the Armed Forces community with a special event set to take place in Queen’s Park.
Charnwood Borough Council is hosting an Armed Forces Day celebration on Saturday, 27 June from 11am to 3pm.
The day will consist of entertainment and activities such as military displays, live performances, community stalls and family attractions.
There will be a variety of music for people to enjoy. A moment of reflection will take place at 1.30pm to honour the commitment and courage of both past and present service personnel.
Cllr Liz Blackshaw, the Council’s Armed Forces Champion said: “Armed Forces Day gives us a chance to recognise and celebrate the commitment, courage and service of those who serve our country,
“This event is not only about paying tribute to our Armed Forces community, but also about bringing people together in the heart of our town and supporting local businesses through a vibrant community celebration.
“We are delighted to welcome residents and visitors to Queen’s Park for what will be a fantastic day of entertainment, reflection and community spirit.”
Highlights of the day include:
Visitors will be able to enjoy live music from a range of performers throughout the day including Charlotte Beaver, the Nottingham Military Wives Choir and the Junkyard Cats jazz band.
Anyone attending the event is encouraged to share photos, tributes and updates on social media.
This year’s event is being part funded by a grant of £1,250 from the Ministry of Defence which is supporting 130 Armed Forces Day events across the UK this summer.
In addition, the Armed Forces Day flag will also be raised outside the Council offices in Loughborough on Monday, 22 June at 10am during a short flag flying ceremony.
Residents are welcome to attend and join the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Colin Hamilton for the ceremony.
