The High Court in KuGompo City in the Eastern Cape has dismissed with costs an application by Premier Oscar Mabuyane against Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema.
Mabuyane sought to have comments made by Malema regarding his academic qualifications declared defamatory, arguing that the statements had caused him reputational harm.
He maintained that he does not possess a master’s degree and had never claimed to hold one.
Court papers show that Mabuyane was deregistered from a master’s programme at the University of Fort Hare after failing to meet enrolment requirements, despite having been admitted to the programme.
He is separately challenging his deregistration in court, with that matter still before the courts.
