MAINCROMWELL, Conn. — There’s nothing worse than being betrayed by your putter.
Matt Fitzpatrick experienced that three consecutive times — triple the pain! — to close out his first round at TPC River Highlands on Thursday.
Fitzpatrick had set himself up for short birdie putts at No. 16, No. 17, and No. 18 and failed to convert all three.
He sits one shot off Eric Cole’s lead entering Friday’s second round of the 2026 Travelers Championship.
The 2022 U.S. Open champ sits tied on the leaderboard with Nico Echavarria and Ben Griffin who are in the clubhouse with respective 64s.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
