Oakleaf partnership adds health focus to Lagos Public Service Club Games
The 2026 mid year Lagos State Public Service Club Games have ended after two weeks of sporting activities across Lagos, with organisers and healthcare partner Oakleaf Pharmaceuticals highlighting the role of physical activity and preventive healthcare in improving the wellbeing of public servants and residents.
The annual games brought together members of the Lagos State Public Service Club from various parts of the state, including the club’s annexes in Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry, to compete in 14 sporting events ranging from lawn tennis and table tennis to scrabble, squash, dominoes and other indoor games.
This year’s edition marked the first time Oakleaf Pharmaceuticals partnered with the club, a development both organisations described as a shared commitment to promoting healthy living and active lifestyles.
Speaking after the games, the Head of Marketing at Oakleaf Pharmaceuticals, Oluseyi Adelaja
said the partnership aligned with the company’s preventive healthcare philosophy.
“For the past one and a half weeks, or about two weeks actually, we’ve partnered with the Lagos State Public Service Club to propagate healthy living, to propagate exercises amongst the citizens and people that live in Lagos, essentially,” Mr Adelaja said.
According to him, both organisations share similar objectives centred on wellness and improved quality of life.
“So it’s all about shared ideas, shared objectives for the Lagos State Public Service Club and Oakleaf Pharmaceuticals,” he added.
Mr Adelaja said the company believes strongly in preventive healthcare, noting that regular physical activity remains one of the most effective ways of reducing the burden of chronic illnesses.
“We believe in preventive health. We also preach improved exercises, increase in activity, and a reduction in any form of sedentary lifestyle that has been implicated in a lot of chronic ailments like hypertension, diabetes and other chronic ailments that are prevalent in our society,” he said.
The World Health Organisation recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity weekly for adults to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases, which continue to pose major health challenges globally.
Mr Adelaja urged workers, particularly those who spend long hours in offices, to incorporate simple physical activities into their daily routines.
“For a lot of us, particularly in our line of work, we tend to sit behind the desk almost all through the day. A situation where you can set timely reminders every two hours, stand up and walk around your office, it doesn’t have to be anything strenuous,” he said.
He also advocated healthier eating habits, encouraging people to reduce fried foods while increasing their consumption of fruits and vegetables.
The Sports Secretary of the Lagos State Public Service Club, Town Planner Adewale Adebayo, described the partnership as a significant addition to the annual competition.
“We’ve been having sporting competitions every year. It’s just that this year, Oakleaf Pharmaceutical has decided to partner with us,” he said.
According to him, the collaboration added value to the games and enhanced participants’ experience.
“Oakleaf added glamour to our event because even with their stand and members who are playing, having to go get samples of vitamins while playing and all, I mean it’s a perfect blend,” Mr Adebayo said.
The club, which was established to promote social interaction, health and welfare among public servants, also admits members of the public as associate members.

Mr Adebayo said the annual sporting festival remains central to the club’s founding objectives.
“As a matter of fact, this club was set up to make sure that members of the civil service interact and also for their health and welfare. So basically, this is fulfilling one of the pillars of this club,” he said.
Winners across the various sporting events received medals and gift items at the end of the competition, with organisers expressing optimism that the success of this year’s edition would encourage greater participation and stronger partnerships in future games.
For Oakleaf Pharmaceuticals, the company said the collaboration forms part of its broader efforts to support initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles and reduce the growing burden of lifestyle-related diseases among Nigerians.
