A delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople visited Rome from June 27 to July 1, 2026, the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity said in a statement released on July 1.
The visit was part of the annual tradition of having a delegation representing each Church visit the other one for the patron saints’ feasts: on June 29 in Rome for the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul and on November 30 in Istanbul for the feast of St. Andrew.
The delegation was led by Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, chairman of the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Synodal Commission for Relations with the Catholic Church. Metropolitan Emmanuel was accompanied by Father Aetios and the Patriarchal Deacon Anatolios.
On Monday, June 29, the Patriarchate’s delegation attended the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Pope Leo XIV. Then on Tuesday, June 30, the delegation attended an audience with the Pope and subsequently met with representatives of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity.
