Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has applauded the peaceful conduct of the local government elections across the state, describing the turnout of voters as impressive and encouraging.
The governor spoke shortly after casting his vote at Ward 2, Udomi Primary School, in Esan Central Local Government Area.
Residents across Edo State turned out on Saturday, July 11, 2026, to elect a new set of chairmen and 192 councillors across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Governor Monday Okpebholo arrived at his polling unit alongside other voters and patiently joined the queue before casting his ballot. Speaking with journalists afterwards, he expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the exercise and commended voters for participating peacefully in the democratic process across the state.

AIT also monitored the election in several communities, including Obeidu-Ivue in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area; Eguare Primary School in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area; and Illeh in Esan West Local Government Area, where voters were seen peacefully exercising their civic rights.
With voting concluded in most polling units, attention now shifts to the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), which is expected to collate the results and officially declare the winners of the 18 chairmanship seats and 192 councillorship positions.
