Only three states have female auditors-general

Nigeria Has now Taken A Step Towards More Inclusive Public Financial Oversight with The Introduction Of A New Gender-Responsive Auditing Framework Aimed At Strengthening Accountability While Promoting Equity And Social Inclusion

Auditor-General for The Federation, Shaakaa Chira, Unveiled The Gender-Responsive Auditing Framework During The Inaugural Women In Public Sector Audit Leadership Dialogue In Abuja.

The framework follows findings from the 2025 subnational audit efficacy index, which showed that only three states have female state auditors-general, while just five states have female auditors-general for local governments.

Executive Director Of The Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative, Olusegun Elemo, Said The Dialogue Marks The Beginning Of A Sustained National Effort To Strengthen Women’s Leadership In Public Audit Institutions While Enhancing Technical Capacity For Gender-Responsive Auditing

Although Nigeria has made progress in strengthening public financial accountability, Experts say audit institutions must now place greater emphasis on generating evidence that improves government policies and delivers better development outcomes for all Nigerians.
