Wyndham Championship 2026: Jason Day playoff streak snapped with MC
Jason Day is looking forward to taking some time off.
The Aussie will miss the FedExCup Playoffs for the first time in his career — 18 straight years, the longest active streak on Tour — after failing to make it to the weekend at Sedgefield Country Club. A 13-time winner with just two T-10 finishes in 2026, Day is projected to finish outside the top 70 in playoff scoring meaning his bubble watch has ended.
And with it comes some much-needed recovery for the 38-year-old’s ailing back that limited him throughout his 19th season.
“My body’s been really awful actually this year, so just to try and grind through it has been tough. The last two days have been pretty hard to try and get my body ready,” admitted Day, who missed the last two events in Minneapolis and Detroit leading up to the regular season finale this week.
“It was a good streak obviously — I would have loved to keep the streak going, but things happen and you’re not going to keep everything going forever,” he added. “Best to kind of take some time off, get my body sorted and try and come out next year and play well.”
Day finished runner-up in his season debut at the American Express but failed to challenge for the winner’s circle again.
He told Golf Channel’s Ryan Lavner that his body was so sore that it hurts to hit a shot.
“Even to put any energy into it hurts,” he said after posting a 4 over in his second round at the Wyndham Championship on Friday.
“It’s hard because how condensed the season is … there’s nowhere to take time off,” Day added. “I probably should have listened to my body a little earlier and taken a good month or two months off but instead I tried to force it through and I’m stuck with where I finished.”
Day, who actually eagled the par-5 fifth, said he was not going to panic about his game heading into 2027.
“I’ve been out here a long time now,” he told Golf Channel. “I just need to take some time off, get away from golf from a little bit because it’s really annoying me right now.”
What lies ahead
Day, who is ninth in the International Team standings for the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah, said he understands if Captain Geoff Ogilvy wanted to go a different way when assembling the roster.
“I’m happy either way, just want them to perform the best they can,” Day said. “If I get the call, then I’m going to do the best job I can; and if I don’t, I will understand.”
