Georgina Rodríguez, wife of Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, has explained why the couple chose an intimate wedding in the living room of their home in Cascais, Portugal, instead of the lavish ceremony many had expected.
Ronaldo and Rodríguez got married on 11 August 2026, marking roughly a decade since they first met at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Rodríguez was working as a sales assistant.
The couple kept the ceremony private before confirming their marriage on social media. Ronaldo shared a photograph of their wedding rings bearing the initials “C
G”, while details of the ceremony were later revealed in an interview with Vogue.
According to Rodríguez, the decision to marry at home was deliberate. She said her childhood idea of a perfect wedding had changed considerably as she grew older and built a family with Ronaldo.
“As a little girl, I envisioned the grandest castle, the most magnificent carriage, the longest gown and a crown adorned with diamonds,” she said.
But the model and entrepreneur said she now values intimacy over spectacle.
“Now, I find myself saying: no. I desire something intimate, shared with my partner and our children, in the comfort of our home.”
Rodríguez said the couple’s extraordinary access to luxury made an intimate family celebration even more meaningful.
“We have access to castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars every day. However, an intimate gathering is something more unique for us,” she said.
The choice of the living room was particularly significant because it is part of the family’s everyday life.
“We chose to hold the ceremony in our living room, the place where we share breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we experience our daily lives.”
She added that she wanted the memory to remain with their children long after the couple’s wedding day.
“In 30 years, I want our children to remember that something wonderful occurred at this table, the wedding vows of our parents.”
The wedding ceremony was attended by the couple’s five children, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., twins Eva and Mateo, Alana and Bella, alongside four witnesses.
Rodríguez wore a white silk Gucci skirt suit with satin shoes, while Ronaldo opted for a light beige suit and custom loafers. The choice of Gucci was also symbolic because it was at the fashion house’s Madrid store that Rodríguez first encountered the footballer in 2016.
The couple later received a religious blessing at the Sanctuary of Fátima in Portugal.
Despite the simplicity of the ceremony, Rodríguez has not completely abandoned the idea of a traditional grand wedding. The couple has indicated that they could hold a larger celebration with relatives and friends at a later date.
