Staff Celebrate Dr Ime Okon As She Marks 100 Days In Office

Staff of General Hospital, Apapa, have commended the Medical Director, Dr Ime Okon, for improving staff welfare and hospital services in her first 100 days in office.
The event marking her 100 days in office was held on Wednesday, at General Hospital Apapa.
Dr Adegboyega Adeyemi, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, said Okon prioritised staff welfare, particularly doctors, shortly after assuming office, boosting morale and productivity.
Adeyemi said Okon also began settling inherited debts, improving the hospital’s relationship with suppliers, while attracting interventions to address infrastructure challenges, including flooding.
He said she also improved laboratory services and other hospital facilities, noting that her leadership had positively transformed the hospital’s environment and operations.
“I commend Dr Okon for making management meetings more focused and solution-driven, with discussions centred on activities, challenges and prompt responses to problems,” he said.
He said Okon had performed creditably within her first 100 days in office, adding that although there was room for improvement, her achievements deserved commendation as she worked towards completing six months and one year in office.
Dr Ridwan Kekere-Ekun, Chief Dental Officer, said Okon encouraged staff participation, motivation and accountability, while closely supervising assigned responsibilities to ensure tasks were completed.
He said the improved staff involvement had contributed to increased revenue, while security, punctuality and other aspects of hospital operations had also improved.
Kekere-Ekun said Okon supported renovation of the maternity ward and development of a new emergency unit, urging her to remain steadfast and sustain the improvements.
Also speaking, Dr Oluwatoyin Aroboto, Head, Eye Clinic and Service Charter, congratulated Okon, saying the department now performed major eye surgeries with necessary instruments previously unavailable.
“Optical services has also improved, with adequate frames and equipment, making work easier and improving service delivery to patients,” she said.
Aroboto, however, appealed for a dedicated theatre for the Eye Clinic, saying it would further enhance operations, while wishing Okon greater success in office.
Mrs Elizabeth Osibodu, Head, Administration and Human Resources said Okon had improved service delivery and staff welfare since assuming office on June 1.
Osibodu said Okon promptly provided resources requested by departments, renovated the abandoned maternity section and introduced an antenatal clinic programme to attract more patients.
She said the renovation would enable relocation of the female ward and facilitate plans to rebuild the dilapidated Accident and Emergency block. She wished Okon greater success.
Ms Margaret Osinowo, Director, Nursing Services and Apex Nurse, described Okon as creative, innovative and transformative leader, saying she had introduced positive changes within 100 days.
Osinowo said Okon renovated the old maternity ward, which would facilitate transformation of the Accident and Emergency Department and improve healthcare delivery.
She described Okon as caring and loving, saying she had contributed significantly to the hospital’s development and demonstrated qualities of a sister and mother.
Miss Hawau Muka-Oshodi, Domestic Department, commended Okon for improving staff welfare and the hospital environment, saying workers enjoyed their stay and were happy working under her leadership.
She said Okon renovated the female ward and ensured the hospital’s CCTV cameras functioned round-the-clock, describing the developments as positive changes.
Mrs Alimat Abdulquadri, Domestic Department, commended Okon for improving cleanliness across the hospital, particularly the public toilets, which she said were now neat and well-maintained.
Abdulquadri expressed happiness with the changes, saying the improved cleanliness had enhanced the hospital environment and made staff proud of their workplace.
The event featured lectures on disciplinary proceedings in the Lagos State public and civil service, as well as HIV prevention and emerging trends.
Staff from various departments also participated in a quiz competition and received cash prizes for their outstanding performance.(NAN)
