Tree Planting Campaign: Nigeria Steps up campaign Against Climate Change
Nigeria is stepping up its fight against climate change with a massive new green initiative in Kogi State.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has launched an ambitious campaign to plant ten thousand trees while demanding an immediate end to illegal logging.
The initiative is keying into the UN Conference on Climate Change of growing forests and protecting existing ones, which is vital to neutralizing dangerous carbon emissions and in preventing deforestation
Trees are disappearing fast across Nigeria due to illegal felling and rapid urban growth. This loss leaves local communities exposed to extreme heat, severe soil erosion, and dangerous weather patterns.
To fight back, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan kicked off the tree-planting drive across Kogi Central.
She called the project a vital step to restore the local ecosystem, clean the air, and protect the health of future generations

The lawmaker warned that losing tree cover destroys biodiversity, harms farming, and ruins livelihoods. She urged residents to care for the new plants, noting they would provide food, boost the economy, and shield the environment.
The campaign will plant native and commercial tree species. These specific trees will beautify the landscape while providing fruit and resources to support local families.
Environmental experts and local leaders are praising the move. They call it a timely shield against climate change. They are urging citizens to take ownership of the project and want governments and businesses to copy this model.
Activists say the long-term success of the drive relies entirely on regular watering and community care. If successful, this project could serve as a green blueprint for the rest of Nigeria.
Before launching the green campaign, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and members of her family visited the graveside of her late father, Jimoh Abdul Akpoti, where they paid tribute to his enduring legacy and exemplary leadership.
