New Delhi:
Aamir Khan is preparing for another sports drama with director Ashutosh Gowariker, years after their successful film Lagaan. The upcoming project, titled Lalkaara, is expected to be based on the 1952 Test series between India and Pakistan.
New reports suggest that Aamir is already working on his look for the role. The actor is following a strict weight loss plan to play a 25 year old character on screen.
Aamir Khan is on a massive weight loss programme for Ashutosh Gowariker’s next film, Filmfare reported citing a source close to the venture. Touted as a sports drama, Lalkaara will see the actor playing a 25-year-old, the report added.
Aamir is known to go all out when it comes to physically transforming for a role, and this time too, he is putting in a great deal of work to look convincing.
Farhan Akhtar was earlier rumoured to be playing a role in the film, but reports claimed that scheduling issues led to his replacement with Sidhant Gupta. Farhan later denied these reports.
Speaking with Variety India, he said, “How do I exit a project when I had never even entered it officially? In the course of one’s career trajectory, every actor comes across many offers and projects. You sign some projects, and don’t sign some. It’s as simple as that.”
Farhan Akhtar may not be directing Lalkaara, but he is still connected to the project as a producer. He and Ritesh Sidhwani are backing the film under Excel Entertainment.
Lagaan became one of Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker’s most loved collaborations and was based on cricket during British rule in India. Now, if Lalkaara moves ahead as planned, the pair will once again explore a major cricket story.
