MAINMedia personality, Adeife Adeoye has sparked a heated debate on social media after suggesting that many young women lack ambition.
According to her, such young women were more focused on marriage and beauty-related careers than on building what she described as meaningful careers.
In a video that has gone viral, Adeife argued that an increasing number of young women are prioritising careers as lash technicians and masseuses, as well as marriage, over pursuing broader professional ambitions.
Her remarks quickly generated reactions across social media platforms, with many users accusing her of belittling legitimate businesses and professions that have created financial independence for thousands of women.
Among the critics was social media commentator, Chief Isiego, who took a swipe at Adeife’s statement.
Reacting to the viral clip, she wrote: “Very rich coming from someone whose major decision after putting on her thinking cap was getting a BBL.”
She further argued that Adeife herself gained relevance through content creation, questioning her criticism of other career paths.
Other users also weighed in on the controversy.
An X user, @datblackwoman wrote: “Being a lash tech or massage therapist is still a business. Not everyone wants a corporate career, and that doesn’t make them less ambitious.”
Another user, @MorenikeJi, commented: “Success is not one-size-fits-all. If a woman builds a profitable beauty brand, she is ambitious.”
However, some users agreed with Adeife’s argument, with @TheRealAyo stating: “I think her point is that young people should dream bigger and diversify their ambitions.”
