More than 500 African leaders have called for a decisive shift from fragmented, externally dependent funding to predictable, African-led investment in sustainable financing for Agriculture research, development and Innovation (AR4D).

This they say is essential to the delivery of the Kampala CAADP Declaration, Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The call was made at the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week, and the 10th General Assembly of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) in Abuja.

For them, Scientific evidence has consistently demonstrates that agricultural research delivers among the highest returns on public investment by generating technologies, policies and innovations that improve productivity, create jobs and strengthen food systems.

With the Theme: Financing Africa’s Agricultural Future: Mobilizing Strategic Investments for Science, Innovation and Transformation.

The dialogue culminates in the adoption of an Abuja Clarion Call on Financing Agricultural Research, Development and Innovation in Africa, providing strategic recommendations for governments, development partners and private investors.
