Anambra Bans Asphalt Laying In Rainy Season • Channels Television

The Anambra State Government has announced stricter quality control measures for road construction across the state, including an immediate ban on asphalt laying during the rainy season, in a move aimed at improving the durability of roads and protecting public investment.

The new directive, issued through the Anambra State Ministry of Works, followed concerns over the impact of heavy rainfall on newly paved roads and forms part of the state government’s drive to enforce higher engineering standards on ongoing and future road projects.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Okey Ezeobi, during a meeting with contractors handling projects across the state, directed that contractors must henceforth suspend asphalt paving whenever weather conditions are unsuitable, warning that any road executed below approved specifications would not be accepted by the government.

He stressed that only roads constructed in line with established engineering standards would receive certification, adding that contractors would be held accountable for defects arising from poor workmanship or disregard for project specifications.

According to the commissioner, the state government remains committed to delivering durable road infrastructure under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, noting that rigorous supervision, strict compliance with contract specifications and regular quality assurance inspections would now guide every stage of road construction.

He added that the measures were designed to ensure value for public funds while reducing the frequency of road failures caused by substandard construction practices and adverse weather conditions.

Ezeobi urged contractors handling government projects to comply fully with the new standards, warning that violations would attract appropriate sanctions, including possible termination of contracts.

He reiterated that the Soludo administration would not compromise on quality, insisting that the new policy is intended to guarantee safer, longer-lasting roads for residents and motorists across Anambra State.
