Atlético Madrid have emphatically ruled out the possibility of Julián Álvarez leaving the club this summer, with chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil insisting the Argentina international is not for sale at any price.
Speaking amid growing speculation linking the striker with a move to Barcelona, Gil made the club’s position unmistakably clear, declaring that Atlético have no intention of entertaining offers for one of their prized assets.
“My position is clear, the club’s position is clear,” Gil said. “We’ve made it known to the player, his representatives, and the president of Barcelona.”
The Atlético chief expressed his unwavering belief that Álvarez’s future lies in the Spanish capital, describing the World Cup winner as the ideal striker for Diego Simeone’s side.
“I have absolutely no doubt that Atlético is the right place in the world for Julián, and that Julián is the perfect centre-forward for Atlético Madrid. We want to keep him.”
Gil also responded to recent comments from Barcelona president Joan Laporta regarding the Catalan club’s financial capacity to pursue the Argentine forward.
“I recently heard the president say that the offer he made to Atlético Madrid wasn’t unlimited. My only response is that our answer is unlimited,” he said.
The 25-year-old has attracted significant interest following an impressive campaign, with Barcelona reportedly identifying him as one of their priority attacking targets.
However, Gil left no room for negotiation, revealing that Atlético had already rejected a substantial offer and would continue to do so regardless of the fee proposed.
“We do not want to transfer him,” he stressed. “We didn’t accept an offer of €100 million, and we won’t accept one of €150 million or even €200 million.”
The statement represents one of the strongest public declarations by a senior club official during the current transfer window and effectively ends speculation over Álvarez’s immediate future.
Unless Atlético dramatically alter their stance, the Argentine forward is set to remain at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano as the club prepares for the new La Liga season, with Simeone expected to build his attack around one of Europe’s most highly rated forwards.
