Scanlon, who had a previous loan spell at Millwall, featured for the Reds in pre-season but has been sent out to get more senior experience and will battle for starts with Joel Bagan.
“I’m ready to go, it’s been a positive pre-season getting minutes,” he said. “It was good for me. My body is ready for the season.”
The defender, who has represented England through the age groups, is Cardiff’s third senior signing of the summer after Nathan Trott’s loan from Copenhagen was turned permanent and midfielder Jack Moylan arrived from Lincoln City.
