It’s time to celebrate the best of the borough as Charnwood Community Heroes returns for 2026.

The awards shine a spotlight on the incredible efforts of residents who go the extra mile to support their communities.

Organised by Charnwood Borough Council, the awards are a chance to say thank you to those who make the borough a better place.

Residents have until Friday, July 31 to submit their nominations.

An awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, 5 September 2026 at Burleigh Court in Loughborough.

Nominations are now open for the annual awards, which recognise everyday people making a big difference – from small acts of kindness to long-standing service.

Cllr Liz Blackshaw, lead member for communities at Charnwood Borough Council, said: “Charnwood Community Heroes is back and we are ready to give centre stage to the people and businesses that do amazing work for our communities.

“Heroes is a highlight of the calendar for the Council as it gives us a chance to hear and share the inspiring stories of the people who make the borough truly great.

“We are excited to honour individuals who have made an impact across the borough and ask that people nominate their unsung heroes. Let’s give them the big moment they deserve.”

 The seven award categories are:

  • Young Hero (sponsored by Loughborough College)
  • Super Trooper
  • Inspiring Others
  • Green Hero (sponsored by idverde)
  • Brilliant Board / Trustee Member
  • Beyond the Call of Duty
  • Business Community Action

The Harry Cook Award will also be presented in honour of the late Harry Cook, a passionate advocate for Loughborough in Bloom. Chosen by the Cook family, this award recognises someone who has made a lasting impact in their community.

Harry, alongside his wife Pat, helped make their home a landmark of the local bloom effort, even featured on BBC Gardener’s World. Pat Cook now chairs the Loughborough in Bloom Board.
