Clergyman Allegedly Sets Wife Ablaze In Lokoja

Residents of Oworo Estate in Felele Community, Lokoja, Kogi State capital, are in shock over an incident involving a self-acclaimed pastor, identified as Jacob Irewa, who allegedly set his wife, Berida Irawo, ablaze following a family dispute.

The victim, who sustained serious burns, is currently receiving medical attention, while her family is demanding justice.

Neighbours in the Local Estate said the couple had been married for about four years.

Speaking to ait.live, the suspect, who is currently in Police custody, said he could not explain what came over him to set his wife on fire.

Residents, religious leaders and members of the victim’s family have condemned the incident, calling for a thorough investigation and justice for Berida Irawo, now battling for life.

The Kogi State Police Command has said that the suspect remains in custody and is being interrogated.

The Command disclosed that he will be charged to Court for attempted culpable homicide upon completion of the investigation.

The Police authorities said the matter has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and interrogation of the suspect.
