The annual Season of Creation commemoration ended on Sunday, 4 October 2026, Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Ecology. On the Feast Day of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary (MSHR), Congregational Leader Sr. Franca Onyibor has invited her fellow Sisters to be ecologically conscious amid current realities.

In a message to all MSHR worldwide, Sr. Franca said humanity’s awakening to a new way of relating to one another, the earth, and the whole universe may be slow, but it is commendable.

Eco-friendly living

For Sr. Franca, the just-ended annual Season of Creation was a hopeful sign of that awakening as Christians around the world united in prayer and action for the Common Home, recognising that the wellbeing of the earth is deeply connected with theirs, especially that of the poor.

The MSHR Leader celebrated that such an awakening was also happening quietly among the Holy Rosary Sisters. She encouraged and commended every effort, such as little gardens; the way the Sisters care for one another; and the simple choices they make to be truly present with each other and with those they are privileged to serve.

Sr. Franca expressed the wish that stories inspired by the Laudato Si’ movement would start to emerge from the countries where Holy Rosary Sisters work and live.

Creation is interconnected

In her message, the Congregational Leader further drew the Sisters’ attention to the interconnectedness of all life.

“We are part of one web of life; what happens to one affects us all. When I pray the ‘Our Father,’ I am reminded that ‘our’ embraces everyone and all creation -the people I meet on the streets, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians, my sisters in community, and in our Common Home,” She emphasised.

Magnifica Humanitas and Our world

Sr. Franca also speaks about Pope Leo XIV’s Encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, which, among other things, reminds humanity that their differences are gifts that can enrich communion and that their futures are deeply interconnected.

She endorsed Pope Leo’s call for strong government regulation and a slower pace of development for artificial intelligence. In Magnifica Humanitas, the Pope says that artificial intelligence must serve human dignity and the common good rather than concentrate power or profit in the hands of a few.
