Nigerian content creator, Jarvis, has fired back at singer Ycee following his remarks about her partner, Peller.
DAILY POST reports that Ycee had, during his appearance on the Afropolitan podcast tagged Peller an ‘Olodo uprising’.
He made the statement while arguing that intelligence and academic excellence are no longer celebrated in Nigeria.
Referencing popular online personalities like Peller as examples of young Nigerians seeking fame through outrageous content rather than education, he said, “Peller culture.”
“We now have an Olodo uprising, and it is terrible. It is like we are trying to accommodate unintelligent and ignorant people because we do not want them to feel bad, so now they are becoming the majority.
“There is a massive attack on the educational system in Nigeria. Now, it is not just the Yahoo culture alone; we also have the Peller culture. If we keep rewarding these guys, people will start to believe all they need to do is say or do something dumb, outrageous, or obscene online to get the clicks and numbers. No shade to Peller, though, because I have nothing against him personally”, he said.
Reacting to the interview in a video on social media, Jarvis blamed digital content creation in Nigeria on the government’s inability to create jobs.
Defending her content with Peller, she asked, “government didn’t provide jobs for us, what exactly did you expect people to do?
“I’m a graduate. go and tell that to your president because you can’t expect individuals with high intelligence to end up cleaning toilets. You even mention my man as ‘Peller culture’. Everybody has their culture, so please don’t bring that thing here. Just because we’re acting funny and trying to earn a living, you’re telling us that we don’t want to have education? So what about me, who graduated from University?” she asked.
