Council Prioritises Health, Remodels Healthcare Centres In FCT

Danjuma Shekwolo, Chairman, Kuje Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says his administration has prioritised healthcare and commenced the remodelling of primary healthcare centres in the council.
Shekwolo said this on Saturday in Abuja at an event to mark his 100 days in office.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event featured an interactive session with stakeholders drawn from opposition political parties, youths, women groups, security agencies and others in the council.
“We have prioritised healthcare and social welfare, and have visited primary health care centres across the area council to get first-hand information on the state of dilapidation and need assessment.
“Within our 100 days in office, we have approved the supply of essential drugs, provided support to vulnerable residents, and commenced the remodeling of primary health care centres in Kuja Central,” he said.
According to him, in education, the administration has engaged the Local Education Authority and head teachers of all 115 public primary schools and commenced assessments to identify areas requiring urgent intervention.
He said his administration had approved the reconstruction and renovation of some dilapidated classrooms at Chibiri, Pasali, Rubochi, Kango.and other communities.
“We have distributed learning materials across public primary schools and recently inaugurated a 13-member scholarship committee to begin screening and selection of eligible indigent students in public institutions for scholarships and bursary.
“We have awarded scholarship from JSS1 to SSS3 to students of Kuje Area Council that participated in a science competition and here we students who participated in competition and took first position,” he said.
Shekwolo said his administration had commenced the grading of rural roads in some communities of the area council to improve access and movement of agricultural produce to the markets.
He said the council also inaugurated Operation Keep Kuje Clean to ensure prompt evacuation refuse dumps across Kuje town.
The council boss said the operation had led to the evacuation of refuse dumps around Kuje Township Stadium, Pasali, and Angwangede Junction
He added that the council had also provided 10 large waste bins for proper waste disposal.
According to him, with the commitment of the people, the council has restored street lights in part of Kuje metropolis and commenced repairs and drilling of boreholes in some communities of the council.
“We have also provided solar street light across community that we feel that in the next 10 to 15 years will not have access to electricity.
“So, we provided solar street light for them so that it can brighten their communities
“On security, we have strengthened collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, vigilante groups through our monthly meetings and other engagements.
“We have been providing logistical support to security agencies to enhance security of lives and property in the communities of the council,” he said.
Shekwolo said his administration would continue to work with all stakeholders to sustain peace across the area council. (NAN)
