Egypt became the second African nation to go through to the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup in the Americas.
The Pharaohs beat Australia four-two on penalties after Friday night’s match in Dallas ended one-all after extra time.
Emam Ashour gave Egypt the lead in the 13th minute and Australia equalised through Mohammed Hany’s own goal ten minutes into the second half.
The Pharaohs were faultless in the shootout, while the Socceroos missed two spot kicks.
Egypt, who are making their first appearance in the knockout stage of a FIFA World Cup, march on, while Australia bow out.
