EPL: Mikel Arteta makes promises to Arsenal ahead new season
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has addressed the media for the first time since the title parade in June 2026, vowing an improved season ahead.
Arsenal secured the Premier League championship, finishing seven points ahead of Manchester City, thus ending a 22-year drought for the title.
However, focus has swiftly shifted to the upcoming season, generating considerable curiosity regarding its developments. Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool have all appointed new coaches, while Michael Carrick at Manchester United and Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham Hotspur are still relatively new in their positions.
Mikel Arteta stands out as the only manager in the league possessing a Premier League winners’ medal following the triumph and Pep Guardiola’s departure from Manchester City.
Additionally, he is the longest-serving coach, and Arsenal is perceived as the most stable team and favorites for another championship.
In a conversation with the Arsenal App, Arteta reflected on the last public appearance with the squad during the title parade. His pride in the accomplishments of himself and his players, as well as the effect it had on the fan base, was evident.
He said, “It was probably the best football experience I’ve ever had. It ranks at the highest level, surpassing any other trophy I’ve won or moment I’ve experienced.
“This achievement narrates a story and illustrates the evolution of a club that faced numerous challenges at various levels, struggling with the connection between the club, its supporters, its purpose, its identity, and our actual aspirations.
However, as previously stated, attention has shifted to the upcoming season. After securing the title, where does Arsenal look to replicate that same sensation? Questions arise regarding whether this achievement represents the culmination of their efforts or the beginning of something greater.
“From listening to Arteta’s comments, it is clear which perspective he supports. “This must be the beginning, and this must be our benchmark,” he stated.
“Excellence should be our benchmark, and it must propel us to pursue the future. Our daily conduct must reflect increasing determination and ambition, as we have demonstrated our capabilities.
“Now, we need to prove that we belong at this level and aspire to elevate this football club to new heights.”
He further remarked, “My goal is to ensure that we consistently meet the standards and requirements each day to improve the next. This is what we must manage.
“Moreover, sustaining that ambition, discipline, commitment, and positive energy throughout the 11 months is our collective responsibility. If we can all accomplish this, we will find ourselves in a very strong position come May.”
