The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has called for stronger stakeholder engagement and institutional collaboration to ensure successful implementation of public sector reforms in Nigeria, emphasising inclusive leadership and sustainable change.

The foundation’s Executive Vice Chair, Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede made the call in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by its Communications Analyst, Jesupemi Are.

Are said Aig-Imoukhuede highlighted the importance of collaboration in reform implementation while advocating stakeholder engagement for successful reforms during the 2026 Public Sector Reform programme held in Lagos, Nigeria.

She said the programme, themed “Unblocking Reform: From Design to Delivery,” brought together public sector leaders, alumni and reform stakeholders to explore practical approaches to addressing challenges hindering reform implementation across institutions.

Aig-Imoukhuede said effective reform leadership required understanding institutional realities, listening to affected stakeholders and building the necessary support to sustain change and achieve meaningful, lasting outcomes across the public sector.

She said that resistance to reforms could not always be dismissed as unreasonable, emphasising that leaders must understand stakeholders’ concerns and create an enabling environment for effective implementation and lasting institutional transformation.

Also, Lagos State Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, said in his keynote address that successful reform implementation required addressing existing gaps in skills, resources and understanding across public institutions and leadership structures.

Agoro said leaders must communicate reform objectives clearly, align institutions with their goals and provide the resources and capabilities necessary to achieve desired outcomes and ensure sustainable institutional improvements.

“People always feel better if they are carried along. Nobody wants to feel that they don’t matter. So it is always important to engage at all levels,” he said.

The programme also featured a panel session titled “Advancing Reform: Building Buy-In and Coalitions,” alongside an interactive discussion that brought together experienced reform leaders to share practical insights and lessons.

Participants took part in a Reform Reality Check and a Reform Solutions Lab, working in multidisciplinary groups to develop practical strategies for improving stakeholder engagement, organisational support and collaboration across public institutions.

The foundation said the convening built on its ongoing work with a growing network of public sector reform leaders across the continent, strengthening collaboration and promoting effective implementation of reforms.

The statement added that an analysis of reform projects undertaken by its alumni identified stakeholder engagement, communication and collaboration as key factors influencing successful implementation, underscoring their importance in achieving sustainable public sector reforms.(NAN)(NAN)
