MAINMembers of Ikola community in Agbado-Okeodo LCDA of Lagos State were thrown into pandemonium on Thursday following a disagreement among some youths, which escalated into community unrest, leaving four persons feared dead and several others seriously injured.
According to an unconfirmed source, the incident may not be unconnected with a disagreement between two members of the community, during which one person was allegedly stabbed.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency said it received a distress call about a fire outbreak in the area at 1:52 p.m. and immediately deployed its response team.
He said several makeshift structures were razed during the unrest, while emergency medical support was provided to the injured by the Agbado-Okeodo LCDA Ambulance Service, the Nigerian Red Cross Society and other health responders.
Normalcy has been restored in the area by security operatives deployed to prevent further breaches of public order.
A full investigation is underway to establish the remote causes of the incident, one of several recorded in the area.
A call by AIT to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola, to ascertain the number of possible arrests by the Police was not answered as of the time of filing this report.
