The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has cautioned prospective Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, and Direct Entry candidates to ensure their personal details are accurate before creating their registration profiles.
In an advisory released on Wednesday as part of its ‘JAMB Explained’ series, the board warned that seemingly minor mistakes in candidates’ names, dates of birth, or other identity details could create serious challenges during the admission process.
JAMB explained that all candidate information used during registration is obtained directly from records maintained by the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, stressing that the board neither creates nor edits such details.
“Before you create your JAMB profile to register for the UTME or Direct Entry, take a moment and carefully check to confirm that your name, date of birth, and any other details linked to the NIN are correct,” the board advised.
It further noted that errors discovered after registration may not be corrected by JAMB, warning candidates against assuming that affidavits can automatically resolve discrepancies in their records.
According to the board, accurate identity information is the foundation of every candidate’s profile and admission records.
It therefore urged all prospective applicants to verify their details with NIMC and ensure they are correct before commencing registration.
