Kaduna State Government is stepping up efforts to combat substance abuse through expanded mental health services, rehabilitation programmes and sustained public awareness campaigns.
The latest initiative is aimed at discouraging drug abuse among young people while promoting healthy lifestyles and community responsibility.
The anti-drug campaign, tagged “Tinubu Uba Cares,” was launched in Kaduna as the first phase of a statewide sensitisation programme expected to cover the three senatorial districts before extending to all 23 local government areas.
Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency, Dr. Joseph Ike, said the state has adopted a public health approach to addressing substance abuse by treating addiction as a health condition rather than a criminal offence.
Convener of the campaign, Abdulmumini Aminu, said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to investing in human capital development by educating young people on the dangers of substance abuse and encouraging them to embrace skills acquisition and other empowerment opportunities.

The campaign forms part of the Kaduna State Government’s broader strategy to build a drug-free society through prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and sustained community engagement.
