Kazakhstan plants 38,000 trees as 513,000 join ‘Taza Qazaqstan’ campaign – EnviroNews

Participants in an annual environmental campaign in Kazakhstan planted more than 38,000 trees and shrubs as part of a nationwide initiative.
More than 513,000 citizens took part in the 2026 campaign, according to a report by TV BRICS.
The initiative, tagged “Taza Qazaqstan” (“Clean Kazakhstan”), brought together the country’s residents, made up of youth representatives and environmental activists, among others.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev joined the participants in planting trees in the Presidential Park.
Speaking during the exercise, the president said, “For me, young people who support such noble endeavours are true patriots.
“Indeed, genuine love for one’s homeland and native region always begins with small things – with caring for one’s own home, village and town.
“It is no coincidence that a popular proverb says, ‘If you fell one tree, plant ten’.
“Caring for nature and treating the environment with respect – these noble qualities are an integral part of our nation’s way of life.”
More than 140,000 representatives of state bodies and 82,000 volunteers participated in the initiative.
School children and students, businesses, and community groups in the region also took an active part.
Across the country, they cleared rubbish from parks and public spaces, woodland areas, river banks and lakes, and the outskirts of towns and villages.
As a result, around 6,000 hectares of land were cleaned up, with more than 12,000 tonnes of waste collected.
According to Alibek Kuantyrov, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, over the years since the launch of the “Taza Qazaqstan” initiative, more than 2,000 environmental events have been held across the country.
During that time, over 3.8 million tonnes of waste have been collected and around 10,000 rubbish dumps have been cleared. The nationwide environmental campaign was launched in 2024.
