LAWMA seals warehouses, market stalls over illegal dumping

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has sealed two warehouses and several market stalls at Ijesha Bus Stop and the Cele Under Bridge corridor over repeated environmental sanitation violations, including the illegal dumping of refuse on road medians and highways.
The enforcement operation was carried out on Thursday by officials of LAWMA’s Project WISE team in collaboration with the Kick Against Indiscipline Corps and the Nigeria Police.
The affected facilities are the Oluremi Tinubu Warehouse, Anambra Warehouse and market stalls along the Cele Under Bridge corridor.
Announcing the development in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Lagos State Government said the action was part of ongoing efforts to enforce environmental laws, protect public infrastructure and improve sanitation across the state.
The statement read, “Officials of LAWMA (Project WISE team), in collaboration with the KAI Corps and the Nigeria Police, today sealed warehouses along Ijesha Bus Stop (Oluremi Tinubu Warehouse and Anambra Warehouse), and market stalls along the Cele Under Bridge corridor for repeated environmental sanitation violations, including the illegal dumping of waste on road medians and highways.”
The government added, “These enforcement actions are part of ongoing efforts to protect public infrastructure, ensure compliance with the State’s environmental laws and keep Lagos clean.
“The affected facilities will remain sealed until all sanitation requirements have been met.”
It warned that illegal waste disposal remains an offence punishable under the state’s environmental laws.
“Illegal waste disposal is an offence and will attract sanctions.
“Residents, businesses, markets, and commercial establishments are advised to dispose of waste only through approved channels and maintain clean surroundings,” the statement added.
