Public Protector (PP) Kholeka Gcaleka has found that the City of Cape Town has not delivered basic services to Langa flats and Khayelitsha, in line with the law and Constitution.
Gcaleka has briefed the media in Cape Town, following an investigation by her office, that started in 2022.
It was a result of community members complaining to her office during an outreach programme.
Complaints included sewerage infrastructure, removal of solid waste, high mast lighting for security as well as adequate water provision among others.
Gcaleka says complaints were found to have merit.
“On whether basic services to residents are rendered in effective and progressive manner as in Constitution and law….and if it amounts to maladministration and improper prejudice, the allegation that basic services are not rendered is substantiated.”
