National Orthopaedic Hospital Jos Records 154 Major Surgeries In 9 Months — MD
Prof. Icha Onche, Medical Director (MD) of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Jos, says the hospital has performed 154 major surgeries, treated 8,502 outpatients and generated N72 million in revenue since it commenced operations in 2025.
Onche made the disclosure on Wednesday in Jos while giving an update on the hospital’s achievements and services since its clinical operations commenced on Oct. 20, 2025.
The MD said the hospital had carried out 159 surgeries, out of which 154 were major reconstructive surgeries.
He further said that 259 patients had been admitted since it commenced clinical operations while five patients had major prosthetic fittings.
Onche said the hospital had continued to provide specialised orthopaedic care to patients, adding that the management was committed to improving healthcare delivery through quality services and modern medical interventions.
According to him, the facility has also recorded significant progress in patient management, surgical procedures and other clinical services within the period under review.
He assured the public that the hospital would continue to expand its services and ensure that patients receive accessible and efficient orthopaedic care.
The MD stated, however, that inadequate funding remained the hospital’s major challenge, noting that it had affected operations, with only two of its three theatres currently functional.
He also decried the shortage of clinical personnel, particularly consultants.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the hospital was established in 2023, and it commenced operations on May 20, 2025, with outpatient services.
NAN also reports that the hospital commenced full-scale operations by admitting inpatients, conducting surgeries, and offering emergency medical care in trauma, especially as regards limbs and spine, on Oct. 20, 2025.
The facility offers reconstructive procedures, hip arthroplasty, knee arthroplasty, limb lengthening/reconstruction, and management of bone gaps, fractures, and spine surgeries.
Its other services include physiotherapy, paediatric orthopaedic services, arthroscopy, sports medicine and prosthetic and orthotic services.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
