NESREA advocates NSCDC collaboration to strengthen environmental enforcement – EnviroNews

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sought stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to enhance environmental protection, monitoring and enforcement in the country.

Mr. Danasabe Daniel, North-East Zonal Director of the NESREA, made the call when he led staff of the agency on a courtesy visit to the NSCDC Command in Adamawa State on Monday, August 24, 2026, in Yola, the state capital.

Daniel said the visit was part of the agency’s efforts to strengthen inter-agency cooperation in the implementation of its environmental regulatory mandate and promote sustainable national development.

“Our visit to the command is to seek sustainable inter-agency collaboration toward strengthening the enforcement and monitoring of national environmental standards and regulations.

“Ultimately, the objective of environmental regulation and enforcement is not simply to punish offenders, but to prevent environmental degradation, protect public health, conserve our natural resources and promote sustainable development.

“Environmental challenges do not respect administrative boundaries; therefore, our response must be coordinated and collective,” he said.

The zonal director stressed the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies and government institutions, to address environmental challenges effectively.

He said such collaboration would enhance compliance with environmental laws and regulations, while contributing to the protection of the nation’s natural resources.

Responding, Mr. Nasiru Saleh, the NSCDC Commandant in Adamawa, assured NESREA of the command’s readiness to collaborate with the agency in promoting environmental protection and enforcement.

Saleh said the corps was already collaborating with various government agencies to protect national peace, security and development interests.

He also expressed the command’s commitment in supporting the NESREA in ensuring effective enforcement of environmental standards and regulations in Adamawa.
