Lebanon’s health ministry says an Israeli air strikes on a village in southern Lebanon have killed at least nine people.

Israeli airstrikes on a village in southern Lebanon killed at least nine people, Lebanon’s health ministry said Monday.
The strikes were among a series that killed seven people across southern Lebanon on Sunday, as the Israeli military retaliated for what it said were drone attacks by the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group on troops in occupied areas of the country.
Eight people, including a child and two women, were killed in a single strike that destroyed a residential building in the town of Kfar Roummane overnight, according to the health ministry. A separate strike on a vehicle killed a paramedic.
The Israeli military did not immediately comment. But Israel’s Foreign Ministry accused Hezbollah of drone attacks and of “attempting to rebuild its military capabilities in southern Lebanon.”
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said the escalation was jeopardizing a U.S.-brokered ceasefire reached in June that was meant to end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. He called on the international community to pressure Israel to halt the strikes.
Under the ceasefire’s terms, agreed to by Lebanon, Israel and the United States, Hezbollah is to disarm, Israeli forces are to withdraw gradually from southern Lebanon, and the Lebanese army is to deploy across the region.
