Nominations for this year’s Charnwood Sports Awards are now open.
The event, organised by Charnwood Borough Council, is returning for its 16th year, and will celebrate sporting achievements across the borough from over the past 12 months.
People are being invited to enter their nominations across 10 different categories. The deadline for nominations is Sunday, 27 September 2026.
This year’s winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Burleigh Court in Loughborough on Monday, 30 November 2026.
Councillor Liz Blackshaw, the Council’s lead member for communities and neighbourhoods, said: “The Charnwood Sports Awards are a wonderful chance to celebrate the outstanding sporting talent, dedication and community spirit that exists right across our borough.
“From young people taking their first steps into sport, to the coaches, volunteers and clubs working tirelessly behind the scenes, these awards recognise the people who make a real difference to sport and physical activity in Charnwood.
“I’d encourage everyone to consider submitting a nomination and help us recognise those who truly inspire others.”
The awards celebrate the work and dedication of individuals, clubs, coaches and volunteers across the borough.
It also recognises organisations making a difference to health and wellbeing.
There are two new award categories this year focussing on elite sports people and teams across the borough.
The Elite Sports Person of the Year focuses on athletes competing at the highest level – professional, international and Olympic – and recognises outstanding performance, medals, rankings, or records at elite competitions.
The Sports Person of the Year is a broader category that can include athletes at local, county and regional levels,. The category rewards overall achievement, effort, and contribution to sport.
Having these two categories ensures grassroots and emerging athletes are recognised alongside world-class professionals.

Last year, England Rugby World Cup winner, Lilli Ives Campion, won the Senior Sports Person of the Year award for her performances for Loughborough Lightning and the Red Roses.
Ashton Adcock picked up the Junior Sports Person of the Year award for her breakthrough year which has seen her sign her first professional contract with Loughborough Lightning Rugby Club and earn call-ups to the England under 18 and under 20 squads.
