Pope Leo XIV receives the President of Montenegro, Mr. Jakov Milatović, in the Vatican.

Pope Leo XIV received the President of Montenegro, Mr. Jakov Milatović, in audience on Saturday morning in the Vatican.

The President subsequently met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

According to a communiqué issued by the Holy See Press Office, during cordial talks at the Secretariat of State, the good relations existing between the Holy See and Montenegro were noted, and matters of common interest were discussed.

The conversation also focused on a number of international and regional issues, with particular attention to the integration of Montenegro and other Western Balkan countries into the European Union, as well as the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine.

During his presidency, President Milatović has also been received in audience by the late Pope Francis, on 7 March 2024..
