Pope Leo XIV met with approximately 220 Augustinian fathers from various communities and several members of the Augustinian family in Madrid on Sunday afternoon, June 7, before his last event of the day with representatives of the world of culture, art, economy and sport at the Movistar Arena.

“After the Provincial Superior’s greeting, the Pope addressed those present with words of gratitude for the opportunity to meet, emphasizing how communion and unity of heart among Augustinians can serve as a message to the world at this moment in history,” a statement released the Holy See Press Office on Sunday said.

“A message to be shared with young people, such as the 600,000 gathered in Plaza de Lima yesterday evening, who expressed their questions and their spiritual search,” the statement continued, recalling the prayer vigil with young people that took place on Saturday evening.

During the meeting with the Augustinians, Pope Leo noted the presence of contemplative sisters and highlighted “the value of their vocation, also in order to give meaning to social action, at a time when silence and humanity’s ability to enter into one’s own heart are being lost.”

The Pope then invited all those present to pray the Our Father together and imparted his blessing, before greeting them all individually.

Pope Leo is currently in Madrid as the first leg of his Apostolic Journey to Spain from June 6 to June 12. He will also visit Barcelona and the Canary Islands.
