The office of the Public Protector says its investigation into Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s alleged political interference in police operations is almost complete.
President Cyril Ramaphosa placed Mchunu on a leave of absence after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made the allegation a year ago.
African Transformation Movement (ATM) of Parliament, Vuyolwethu Zungula, requested the Public Protector to investigate the allegation against Mchunu.
The Public Protector’s Chief Operations Officer, Advocate Nelisiwe Nkabinde addressed the media in Cape Town yesterday.
“However, we are at a stage where we do anticipate that we will be finalising the investigation, just closing a few other investigative areas so that our investigation is quite credible and is informed when we finally issue the report,” explains Nkabinde.
