Ronaldo becomes first player to score in 25 consecutive league seasons
Cristiano Ronaldo has set another remarkable record after becoming the first professional footballer to score in 25 consecutive league seasons.
The 41-year-old Portuguese forward achieved the feat on Friday, August 21, when Al-Nassr faced Al-Riyadh in the Saudi Pro League.
Ronaldo started the match on the bench before coming on in the 62nd minute.
He needed just 21 minutes to make his mark, finding the net in the 83rd minute after meeting Ayman Yahya’s low cross and calmly finishing with his left foot inside the box.
The goal extended a scoring streak that began during the 2002-03 season, when Ronaldo scored for Sporting CP as a teenager.
His latest achievement saw him move past Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimović, who had previously held the record for scoring in 24 consecutive league seasons.
Ronaldo’s goal also moved his official senior career tally to 977 goals for club and country, leaving him just 23 goals away from the unprecedented 1,000-goal mark.
His career goals have come during spells with Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr, as well as the Portugal national team.
Ronaldo has scored 450 goals for Real Madrid, 146 for Portugal, 145 for Manchester United, 130 for Al-Nassr, 101 for Juventus and five for Sporting CP.
His latest strike also contributed to a strong start to Al-Nassr’s 2026-27 Saudi Pro League campaign, with the club recording a 4-0 away victory over Al-Riyadh.
The milestone comes as Ronaldo continues his pursuit of 1,000 official senior goals, a landmark that would further cement his status as one of football’s most prolific goalscorers.
Despite his continued form, Ronaldo has suggested that the 2026-27 season could potentially be his final campaign as a professional footballer. His current contract with Al-Nassr is due to expire in June 2027.
