The family of Barrister Nwachukwu C. Okafor of Ndiabor, Ugwunano, Umunze, and the Alaekwe family of Agbirigba, Lomu Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has announced the passing of their matriarch, Mrs. Roseline Ekekwe Okafor.
According to a statement signed by Barrister Okafor on behalf of the family, Mrs. Okafor joined the Saints’ triumphant on August 13, 2026, at the age of 105.

The family described her as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, community leader, and source of inspiration, noting that she lived a fulfilled life marked by love, sacrifice, and service to humanity.
Born around 1921, Mrs. Okafor was fondly called “Uyogbo Ochindioma,” meaning “the great leader of beautiful women,” a title she earned through her leadership among women. She was also known as “Egoigwe” for her industrious nature and dedication to hard work.
The statement revealed that she married her husband in Umunze, her hometown, and endured several personal challenges, including the loss of some of her children during infancy. Only three of her biological children survived, alongside a stepchild she raised, bringing the number of children she nurtured to four.
Beyond her immediate family, Mrs. Okafor raised many children from other families and played a significant role in the lives of people within her community.
Despite having limited formal education in Enugu, the centenarian acquired midwifery skills and became the extended family’s trusted midwife, assisting mothers and children within her community.
She passed peacefully in the presence of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, adding that she expressed her desire to be celebrated with joy and thanksgiving at the end of her life.
“Mama was a loving wife to our father and an inspiration and support to her larger family and community. She passed with assurances of a place in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ,” the statement read.
The family expressed gratitude to God for the life Mrs. Okafor lived and called on friends, relatives, and well-wishers to join them in celebrating her with prayers, praises, and thanksgiving.
The burial arrangements, according to the family, will be announced at a later date.
