Russia, Ukraine continue to exchange deadly strikes
Russia and Ukraine have exchanged deadly aerial attacks, killing and injuring numerous people, as energy infrastructure increasingly becomes a target with winter approaching. The latest strikes also affected neighboring countries amid new Russian nuclear threats against the NATO military alliance.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched nearly 190 drones and missiles against Ukraine overnight, killing at least five people, including a child, across the country.
Kyiv and the surrounding region were among the main targets, with energy infrastructure hit.
Ukraine said it intercepted five missiles and more than 150 drones.
Russia confirmed carrying out the attacks, saying it targeted facilities supporting Ukraine’s military, including energy and port infrastructure.
Attacks spread beyond Ukraine
The strikes also caused concern beyond Ukraine’s borders. Poland and Romania scrambled fighter jets, while Moldova said a Russian drone entered its airspace and exploded on its territory. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
However, Ukraine also continued its own long-range attacks inside Russia.
Russian authorities said one person was killed in the Bryansk border region, while Ukrainian drones also targeted the Samara region, an important center for Russia’s oil industry.
Ukraine has increasingly attacked Russian refineries, fuel depots and other energy infrastructure in an effort to undermine Moscow’s war effort.
Russia threatens NATO
The latest exchanges came as tensions between Russia and the NATO military alliance were also rising sharply.
Moscow warned NATO that Russia could use nuclear weapons if the Western military alliance tried to cut off Kaliningrad, Russia’s heavily militarized exclave on the Baltic Sea between Poland and Lithuania.
NATO condemned the warning, calling Russia’s nuclear rhetoric irresponsible.
With winter approaching, the escalating attacks on energy infrastructure and Moscow’s nuclear warning are adding to concerns that the war could enter an even more dangerous phase.
