Sambo’s death not related to undocumented immigrants protest: SAPS

Deputy Police Commissioner Tebello Mosikili has confirmed that the death of 18-year-old Nhlamulo Sambo was not related to the unrest involving suspected undocumented immigrants.

Sambo was killed on Sunday in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape.

More than 50 informal structures were destroyed and hundreds of people were displaced after violence erupted following a march.

Two Mozambican nationals were killed on Friday night.

Speaking during a media briefing in George, Mosikili said: “We further wish to clarify that based on the information currently at our disposal, the death of Mr Sambo is not linked to the recent unrest in the area. We therefore urge the public to refrain from speculation and spreading misinformation and to allow the investigation to continue unhindered.”

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old suspect arrested in connection with Sambo’s death will appear in the local magistrate’s court on Friday.
