Troops Intercept Gun Runners, Rescue Six Kidnap Victims In Zamfara

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intercepted three suspected gun runners and rescued six kidnapped victims in separate operations conducted in Zamfara State.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North West Operations, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were conducted on August 23, 2026.

Troops intercepted two vehicles conveying three suspected gun runners along the Kaura Namoda-Shinkafi Road while conducting a search operation.

During the search, troops discovered an AK-103-2 rifle, one magazine and 30 rounds of ammunition concealed inside a bag of millet.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were reportedly destined for Yar-Galadima in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops responded swiftly to reports of a terrorist attack on motorists along the Anka-Gummi Road.

The terrorists were reportedly attempting to force their captives into a nearby forest when troops engaged them, forcing the assailants to flee and abandon all six victims.

The victims were immediately rescued, although three of them sustained minor injuries during the ordeal.

The Joint Task Force commended members of the public for their continued support and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and weapons to security agencies.
